HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN AN AUDITION

Apr 14, 2020

In an audition an actor needs to understand what it is the director wants. The real problem is that often directors don’t have a clear idea of what it is they want!

Most of the time (except for some directors) a director holds many auditions (castings), to get an idea of the character, even if they or the screenwriter wrote and imagined the character. The director can’t make the character in flesh and blood, but they really need an actor to put the person on stage in a film, in a short film, at the theater or on television.

Of course, the actor puts their own into the performance but they will never be able to guess what the director wants and what the screenwriter imagines. The director often takes small pieces from auditions and then joins them together in a puzzle to create a better version of the character for his film product.
