Designed for actors with all levels of experience from all parts of the world, Focus Movie Academy offers intensive training in Film Acting, Improvisation, Emotion, Diction, Perception, Movement, Dance, Vocal Techniques and Singing, approaching the camera by practicing leading international acting methods such as the Stanislavsky and Meisner Method.
Unlike many academies or schools, we believe in hands-on experience so that students can grow both as individuals and as actors, thus being able to tackle every field of this fascinating craft in front of the camera.
Students during their training will be able to confront the reality of international filmmaking, taking advantage of English language classes and targeted meetings with agencies, casting directors, actors, directors and producers.
Practice as a fundamental element
The teachers of the film acting course are all professional bilingual actors, screenwriters, directors and producers who have film, television and theater experience, thanks to both the most prestigious sets at Cinecittà both for independent and international productions.
This vast knowledge of film acting enables the teachers to impart that practical experience to young actors necessary to launch a career in film and television.
Both the Academy’s ‘hands-on approach and its focus on the development of other acting skills in the performing arts mean that Focus Movie Academy is recognized asItaly’s most avant-garde international acting academy.
THE HEADQUARTER
The course will be held at the film academy in Florence, located in the Palazzo Guadagni, a historic building dating back to the 16th century. Inside are eleven classrooms, a media center, a conference room, a student lounge and a terrace.
Florence is a wonderful city, especially if you are an art lover. The city offers numerous sources of artistic inspiration.
It is here that our courses mostly take place, in the Ponte Vecchioarea , in the beautiful Santo Spirito square surrounded by typical trattorias, bars and artisan workshops.

Subjects studied
Acting Course
This acting course will guide you through the fundamental techniques for playing a character with authenticity and expressiveness. From text study to scene construction, you will learn how to manage emotions, intentions and movements to bring credible performances to life both in front of the camera and on stage.
Diction Course
Speaking with clarity and intensity is essential for an actor. In the diction course you will learn the correct use of voice, Italian phonetics, articulation and intonation, eliminating speech defects and improving your expressive ability for any kind of performance.
Vocal Techniques and Singing Course
The voice is a powerful tool for an actor. In this course you will refine breathing control, use of the diaphragm and vocal projection techniques, until you approach singing as an expressive medium, useful for musical theater and film.
Dance and Scenic Movement Course
The body tells as much as the voice. Through this course you will learn to move with awareness on stage and in front of the camera, developing coordination, bodily expressiveness and mastery of stage space, which are essential for every actor.
Improvisation Course
Improvisation is a fundamental skill for a versatile actor. In this course you will learn how to react spontaneously on stage, develop a sense of rhythm, and manage interaction with other actors, honing your readiness and creativity.
Course for Passing a Casting
Facing an audition with confidence makes all the difference. In this course you’ll discover strategies for how to best prepare yourself: from analyzing the script to managing anxiety and presenting yourself effectively. You will learn how to enhance your qualities and make your mark in auditions.

GUARANTEED EMPLOYMENT FOR STUDENTS
The Acting student who has passed the exams with a final average of not less than 105/110 will be entitled to free of charge, thanks to the collaboration with Goldreels Media, a work experience in LONDON where he/she will be able to create the material for his/her professional portfolio by confronting international professionals. The service includes the free creation of a showreel and headshot. The student during his or her journey will have the opportunity to compare and hold auditions with Italian, British and American agencies.
N.B. The showreel and headshots are very important for the ‘actor as they constitute the material with which it is possible to apply to agencies and castings in general.
LESSONS WITH an AGENT
FMA gives you a unique opportunity to learn how an agency operates and to better address one of the big steps every actor encounters on his or her path-the audition-by participating in three meetings with an agent to understand how agencies work and why it is important to be represented.
The topics covered? Contracting, taking care of one’s public image through photos and social media, to exercises that will lead you to a final audition simulation.

FAQ
Does the academy offer graduate courses?
Our goal is to train students to direct them into the working world of the film and television industry, a field that does not require a specific degree. Our academic courses are advanced professional training courses during which students will acquire knowledge, skills and abilities that will enable them to succeed in the industry.
How are class schedules organized? Is it possible to study and work at the same time?
Our academic courses are three-year courses. Courses begin the first week of November and end in late July. Class hours are concentrated on consecutive days to facilitate out-of-town students or those with part-time jobs.
Is attendance compulsory?
Attendance is not compulsory but is recommended to perform as well as possible on the exams and to have as much knowledge as possible, increasing the chances of being able to work later in the film and audiovisual industry.
Are there exams to be taken during the course?
Yes, our exams are structured like the Italian university, they have a maximum of 3 appeals per academic year. Rejecting a grade or failing the exam does not preclude continuation of the course.
What job opportunities I can have after finishing the course
Job opportunities will depend strictly on the skills the student has developed during his or her course of study. Working as part of a team, presenting oneself in the best possible way at an audition, working profitably under pressure, and knowing and being able to use audiovisual equipment to the best of one’s ability are all skills that the professional must possess in order to pursue a lasting and fulfilling career in the industry.
To facilitate the ‘approach to the world of work over the years, the academy has activated important collaborations with companies and productions in the area, which can send applications to the directorate for various professional figures. It will be the management that will determine, based on merit and skills, the alumni who can apply for the role. These opportunities are to be considered external to the curriculum and are not part of the purchased package.
Also in their third year, students who are in good standing will audition with an agency (for Acting students) or intern with an industry company (for Filmmaking students).
Can you help me look for accommodation in Florence?

No, our academy is open to everyone. Our philosophy is to teach a professional method through the concept of “learning by doing.”

When does enrollment close?
Registration is always open until the maximum number of students per class is reached. To avoid the risk of not being able to access the course of interest, it is strongly recommended to register by the first week of October each academic year.
Beyond that date classes may be full!

Can I pay in installments?
A deposit (non-refundable) equal to 10% of the annual fee is required to confirm enrollment.
The annual fee is to be paid in 2 installments:
1st installment in October before the start of the course;
2nd installment in February
Optionally, it is possible to pay in several installments but a surcharge is applied:
3 installments: a surcharge of 5% of the annual fee is applied;
4 installments: a surcharge of 10% of the annual fee is applied.

Is it possible to unsubscribe?
The enrolment contract has the duration of 12 months and is automatically renewed until the end of course diploma is awarded. Withdrawal from the course should be communicated in written form by 15th July of the academic year. For more information on failure to give notice of termination see the terms and conditions of the enrollment form in Article 14.
